I recently finished The Tenth Circle by Jodi Picoult. She is writer that in the last few years has really exploded. I have read many of her books, and I wasn't always happy when I reached the end. I loved the book My Sister's Keeper......until the last 10-20 pages. I was so upset when I finished, I had no desire to read any of her other books. That was a few years ago. I have a habit of finding a writer I've never read and reading everything they have written in a short time. I end up catching up pretty quickly, and end up waiting for any new books......so I have to find something else to read in the mean time.
In this case, I found the story scary and relevant. So much more happens in the story then the back cover lets on to. And I mean LOTS more. But, does it make a GOOD story? In this case, no, not really. In the end, all this book did was make me terrified for Justyce, and ,us, as parents. What we will be going through 7-8 years from now.
When I had Justyce, I went to the library and read a lot of books about what girls go through now. Some things were very similar to what I went through as a pre-teen and teenager. But, others caught me completely off guard. I've heard of the Rainbow game before.....but the others I had not. The casually attitude that these kids have about sex....no, not sex. To them oral sex is not sex, just a way to pass the time. the girls in this story are 14. 14!!!
I'm off the subject. The book did not surprise me, as some of her passed novels have done. I knew the ended 200 pages before I came to it. As I'm sure other readers will, too. The storyline and casualness of the teenagers did scare me, but the story itself did not live up to what it could have been. I was very disappointed. I'll loan this book to anyone that wants to read it. Everyone's opinion has to be based on what they feel when they read it. All I can say is, I wish I hadn't.
